Vincent De Luca OAM
BA LLB Grad Dip Leg Prac

Vincent De Luca OAM entered community life in his teens and by 18 was elected President of the Management Committee of one of Warringah’s largest youth and community centres, the Curl Curl Youth and Community Centre. He served as President for nearly two decades.

Vincent has worked extensively in youth affairs, youth suicide prevention, drug and alcohol prevention and domestic violence prevention, giving a helping hand to some of the most disadvantaged people in our community. He was appointed a Delegate to the National Peoples’ Convention on Youth Suicide Prevention held in Federal Parliament in 1998 and tasked with developing a youth suicide prevention strategy for Australia with community leaders from across the country. Vincent was also appointed to the Executive Committee of the National Peoples’ Council on Drug Prevention, High on Hope, and he co-founded GAPS youth suicide prevention and support association. He has been a Delegate to the National Suicide Prevention Conference for many years.

In recognition of his outstanding voluntary service to youth welfare, sporting organisations and the community, in 2004 Vincent became one of the youngest in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List to be awarded the Order of Australia (OAM).

In the same year, Vincent was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW, having graduated from Macquarie University with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws. He also has a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. Vincent has worked as a public official in various roles, including in the NSW Attorney General’s Department, the Office of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier of NSW, the Office of the Parliamentary Secretary for Justice and the Office of the Parliamentary Secretary for Planning, the Central Coast and the Hunter.

Vincent was a passionate Ambassador for the White Ribbon Foundation for over a decade for the prevention of violence against women and was nominated as its Ambassador of the Year in 2010 and has raised significant funds for womens refuges and safe houses.

He has also been the Patron of the Save Manly Dam Committee and President of the Friends of Warringah Residents’ Group against over-development which fought against high-rise development in Dee Why and surrounding suburbs.

Vincent’s interest in local government began in 1999, when he contested his first Warringah Council election, only to be diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer during his campaign. He was given six weeks to live. After a long and courageous fight which included extensive chemo and radio therapy, a bone marrow and stem cell transplants, he made a full recovery. During his two years in and out of hospital, Vincent continued his community activities often from his hospital bed. Upon realisung more funding was desperately needed for cancer patients and cancer research he commenced fundraising and since then he has raised significant funds over the years for the Cancer Council of NSW, the Cure the Future Foundation, the Australian Gynaecological Cancer Foundation and actively supported people diagnosed with cancer and their families.
